A Moment of Unity: HRH The Princess Royal and global guests celebrate
the revival forgotten histories, linking Hong Kong to the world.

This traveling exhibition in London, designed by Design PY, bridges Hong Kong’s local heritage to global WWII narratives through the accidental discovery of a 1944 diary authored by Chinese naval officer Lam Ping-yu. The diary reveals the untold story of 24 officers trained in Britain who participated in the D-Day Landings—a chapter obscured by time.

This design ensures rapid deployment, effortless transport,
crafted to harmonize with historic spaces like Trinity House!

The exhibition employs a modular design system of collapsible frames, suspended plywood panels, and tension cables. This lightweight yet sturdy architecture allows seamless adaptation to historic spaces like London’s Trinity House, where natural light and material textures—locally sourced maple with hand-rubbed stains—echo the diary’s aged patina.

By intertwining spatial storytelling with cross-cultural research, the project invites visitors to explore how personal histories, like Lam’s vivid accounts of European battlefields, resonate within Hong Kong’s urban memory. Join us in reimagining design’s role as a conduit for forgotten voices and shared human legacies.
