Our built environment represents limits of our physics and material properties. What types of architecture will emerge of exploration of alternative physical constraints? Utilising the unique affordances enabled by Virtual Reality, this project explores spatial design through the lens of speculative physics, causality and interaction.

Materials and movements are subject to gravitational forces. What if we can manipulate gravity? Starting from the articulation and design of gravitational behaviour, the project experiments the relationship of human bodies and planes. By enabling control over one’s relation to surfaces, the designed environment creates a defamiliarisation of the ground plane in reality. The interaction within the virtual world stimulates and triggers the existing understanding of one’s body under the forces of gravity.

The research simulation is created with Unreal Engine.
